ABOUT KALABDHI 2020 - INDIANNESS VIA SUSTAINABLE LIVING

WHY SUSTAINABILITY AND ART TOGETHER?

India is an ensemble of sacred groves, spices, landscapes where forests, deserts and water bodies are worshipped. Modernization has irreversibly altered our consumption values whether in style of cooking, clothing, social living, art and even recycling. Have we lost touch with our roots? Westernization has driven us away from natural sources of living in harmony with nature such as Khadi clothing, locally grown – seasonal produce, and to a large extent heritage craft.

How can our local culture be instrumental in resolving the issues pertaining to environment degradation is what we must rethink for a ‘Sustainable Living’ ethos. The whole thought process this year is to stimulate artists to strike a balance between nature and Indian contemporary artistry and emulate the essence in their paintings, sculpture, installation and photography skills. Kalabdhi 2020 is an avenue of sustainable ethos where artists are expected to incorporate this surge in participation and artwork.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT KALABDHI 2020?

The essence of KALABDHI 2020 revolves around the sustainable ideology of ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’. The art festival is designed to attract budding artists, professionals and emerging talents on a national level to bring out their best, most innovative ideas in a competitive environment.

The festival schedule, meticulously planned over two days, accommodates competitions, art workshops for kids & adults, live art sessions, entertainment shows and more. The highlight of the festival is the Sustainable Community Centre where the aim is to spread awareness towards environmental ethics; be it waste management, plastic pollution or water conservation.

VENUE

KALABDHI ART FESTIVAL is back in the city of Kalapur! And we have chosen a venue that aligns with Kalabdhi’s mission.

The 300-foot flag post, the country's second-tallest installed at KSBP Police Garden in Kolhapur, speaks volumes of ‘Indianness’. This flag was installed by the trust KSBP and the area marks the working and residential headquarters of the Kolhapur Police Department.

KSBP, aka Kolhapur Street Beautification Project, as the name suggests, strives to create a cleaner, greener and better Kolhapur. They have worked immaculately towards providing safer, cleaner and beautiful roads to the residents of Kolhapur. The team believes in taking action for a sustainable socio-economic impact on the society and we salute the spirit of the core team along at KSBP for undertaking the maintenance of the Police Garden.

An extravagant combination of all things artsy with a unique essence of Indianness and heritage craft is slated to stir up the cool air of KSBP Police Garden on February 22nd and February 23rd.
